State Bank of Patiala was founded by Highness Bhupinder Singh, Maharaja of erstwhile Patiala state on November 17th 1917 by the name of Patiala State Bank. First branch of the Bank was named as Chowk Fort, Patiala. Patiala State Bank was established to give a growth for agriculture, trade and industry. It became a subsidiary bank of State Bank of India named as the State Bank of Patiala on 1st April, 1960.
Patiala State Bank came under the Reserve Bank of India in 1948 by Patiala and East Punjab States Union (PEPSU). It became nationalized bank of India formally being an associate bank of SBI.
