SSC (Staff Selection Commission) has just today issued recruitment notification 2012 for a huge recruitment of 42,422 Constables (39,574 Male & 2,848 Female) in the General Duty (GD) branch of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) - BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB and also Assam Rifles. This notification has come out in the Employment News/Rozgar Samachar of today (i.e. 03.12.2011).
Last date to apply for this recruitment is 4th January, 2012.
What are the eligibility for this CAPF recruitment and how to apply for the same? This is the subject matter of this blog article, which draws the data from above notification. In a subsequent blog post titled: SSC CAPF Constable Exam Pattern, Papers & Books I would tell you how to prepare for the same.
Before we begin, let us know what is CAPF.
Central Armed Police Force (CAPF):
The Central Armed Police Forces (also called as "paramilitary forces") are the following eight police forces of the central government of India:
BSF (Border Security Force), CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Railway Protection Force (RPF), National Security Guards (NSG) & Special Protection Group (SPG).

SSC CAPF Constable Vacancy 2012:
There are 39,574 Male & 2,848 Female vacancies with category-wise vacancies as given in the table at right, separately for male and female. You can find the detailed state-wise, category-wise vacancies for these positions of constables in Annexure-A,B & C in last pages (37-43) of the notification.
Why this state-wise vacancy position is important? Because, if you go through the notification carefully, you will find that you will be considered for recruitment in your respective State only on production of valid “Domicile Certificate” from your state.
Salary being offered for CAPF Constables:
Pay Scale – Pay Band – I, Rs. 5200-20200 + Grade Pay R 2000/-
Eligibility for SSC CAPF Constable:
Age Eligibility: Min: 18, Max: 23 years as on 01.08.2012. (DOB not earlier than 01.08.1989 and not later than 01.08.1994).
Academic Qualification Eligibility: Matriculation or Xth class pass from a recognized board/university.
Physical standard eligibility:
a) Height: For Males : 170 cms., For Females : 157 cms.
b) Chest: For males only – Unexpanded : 80 cms, - Expanded : Min expansion 5 cms.
c) Weight : For males and Females : Proportionate to height and age as per medical standards
On top of above physical standards, you also have to pass through the PET (Physical Efficiency Test) as given in Page-11 of the notification.
SSC CAPF Constable Selection Process:
Selection Process for the Constable positions in these Central Armed Police Forces consists of following stages:
Stage-I: PST (Physical Standards Test) & PET (Physical Efficiency Test) as given above.
Stage-II: Written Test: Consists of a 100 question, 100 mark objective type test which has to be answered in two hours. More about it in my next blog post titled: SSC CAPF Constable Exam Pattern, Papers & Books.
Stage-III: Medical Examination: As given in page-13 of the notification.

Last date for submission of offline form: 04.01.2012 (for remote areas: 11. .01.2012).
Last date for submission of online form (Part-I): 02.01.2012
Last date for submission of online form (Part-II): 04.01.2012
PST/PET : February to March, 2012
Written Examination: 22nd April, 2012
Medical Examination: June-July, 2012
Declaration of Result: 30th September, 2012
